We thought you might like a taste of the material that can be found on the VIEW Retail application. Included, are some sample materials for you to explore in order to give you a feel for the software resource. VIEW is made up of many different components including panoramic imaging, short video extracts, audio interviews and web links, but the critical component is that they are all linked under a common interface and means of exploration.
Check out this video (left) of a VIEW application in classroom use first, and then taste some of the individual components used to make the VIEW Retail application below:
VIEW Retail provides a young person with accessibility to the workplace. It replaces a real visit which is often difficult or impossible to arrange. Visiting the House of Fraser through VIEW Retail can be achieved without time constraints, no permissions needed for an off site visit, no health and safety worries, nowhere to get lost or disrupt the employer’s business.
VIEW Retail can be easily used by most students after less than 30 minutes of instruction and practice. You can find downloadable materials to help you introduce VIEW to students elsewhere in this resource. Once they can use VIEW Retail they can use all the VIEW applications – the user interface remains the same.
VIEW Retail contains a wealth of information presented in a variety of forms. If you read, listen and watch carefully you will find over one thousand individual pieces of work based evidence within the software. These include:
- 45 panoramic 360 degree images,
- 21 interviews with staff answering more than 360 questions between them,
- Over 380 ‘pages’ from documents,
- Over 250 single images or close-ups,
- 12 short video extracts,
- Over 50 web links,
- Over 20,000 words in narrative,
- Over 500Mb of data.
Spending just 20 seconds looking or listening to each image, question, document or video and it will take you more than five hours to review all the material in VIEW Retail and that doesn’t include reading the narratives and the time finding everything as you explore. But don’t worry, we have provided guides to help you and your students locate evidence around the store.
